Accessibility Info for Climate Camp 2024

Here is our full accessibility statement for this year’s Climate Camp. Community care is a massive driving force behind Climate Camp. We are a small organising team but will do our best to accommodate access needs. If you have issues with mobility, please text the camp phone (+353 899621842) letting us know when you are planning to arrive and we will be happy to help you.

Physical Access:

  • The land hosting the camp this year is a relatively flat and walkable field on the shore of Lough Neagh.
  • There will be compost toilets and accessible portaloos close to the camping site.
  • There will be limited seating with back support, so please bring a supportive camping chair.
  • Parking is limited but we will arrange accessible parking as close as possible to workshop spaces.

Sensory Information:

  • Workshops and entertainment areas can get noisy, quieter spaces will be near the Camping site and Welfare Areas. Don’t forget ear defenders or earplugs if you are sensitive to loud noises.
  • Many of the workshop spaces will not have sound amplification, except the Barn for evening entertainment.
  • Unfortunately, we do not have any Volunteer Sign Language Interpreters for workshops.

Covid Safety:

Wastewater Data from HSE Ireland shows that there is currently a large summer wave of Covid cases. Many people with a COVID infection don’t have symptoms but can still spread the virus to others who may be more vulnerable.

  • We ask that you take an at home antigen test before coming to camp.
  • Keep others safe by staying home if you feel unwell.
  • CO2 Monitors will be placed in tents, to help people assess the air quality inside the more enclosed spaces at camp. We will also provide masks in all workshop spaces.
  • We have the resources to provide 10 Covid Care packages to support those more at risk of covid infections. The packages includes; Respirator Style Masks, Iota-Carrageenan Nasal Spray, CPC Mouthwash and an antiviral Rosemary Tincture (Alcohol Based). Please email climatecampireland@gmail.com to put your name down for one of these packages and these will be available for collection at the Welfare Tent.

Financial Support:

If travel expenses are stopping you from attending the camp then please fill in an application to our solidarity fund: https://forms.gle/KbySLYGdW8g7UsvS8

Self Preparedness and Support on Camp:

This is an outdoor camp which will be subject to weather conditions, please pack rainproof gear and warm clothes for sleeping in a tent at night. We will have limited extra camping equipment which will be accessible from the Welfare team. If you have extra gear then please bring it along to the welfare team, and they can loan this out for return for anyone who needs it at camp.

If you have food allergies please attend the morning meetings so you can inform the Kitchen Volunteers so they can make accommodations. You are also welcome to pack tasty snacks for yourself.

There will be volunteers in the Welfare tent throughout the camp, please bring any accessibility needs to their attention.

If you have any questions regarding accessibility, please email us at climatecampireland@gmail.com
